It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Mrs. Taylor is the Art teacher at Red Hill High School. Under her painter’s smock, she has 5 years of experience teaching and is even one of the main sponsors for the school’s art club. She teaches 8th Grade Art, Art Foundations I and II, Painting and Drawing I and II, 3D Design I and II, and Advanced Studio. Whenever she was asked about her inspiration for becoming a teacher, she simply answered that she loves art and has always wanted to be a teacher, especially when she was younger.
In order to keep education fun and entertaining, Mrs. Taylor likes to keep her art projects engaging and relevant as well as finding artists that her students can find relatable or interesting. As a teacher, one of her biggest challenges with teaching is whenever she gets students that aren’t confident in their artistic abilities. In order to help these kids, Mrs. Taylor does her very best to open their eyes to the world of art and help them discover their inner inspiration. However, one of the most challenging situations she had to face as a teacher was Covid, which was a time that was difficult for most teachers but especially art teachers since art is a class that is mostly in-person and very hands-on. She did her very best to accommodate her online students during the mandated quarantine. In contrast, Mrs. Taylor loves hosting her students at art shows and displaying to the world how much they’ve improved since they first started her class. Similarly, an especially proud moment within her career as an art teacher was whenever one of her students won the Congressional Art Competition for the State of Illinois.
Mrs. Taylor is an exceptionally positive person and greatly dislikes any form of negativity, especially within her classroom. One of her most recommended books for teaching is ArtCurious: Stories of the Unexpected, Slightly Odd, and Strangely Wonderful in Art History. Another tool that she believes to be extremely important for her teachings would be her document camera and paper cutter.
In Mrs. Taylor’s personal time she enjoys reading, art, listening to podcasts, and running her Etsy shop online. During the school day, her favorite time of the day would have to be what she refers to as ‘morning coffee time’ whenever she visits the school’s library in order to get her daily dose of caffeine. Overall, Mrs. Taylor is an exceptionally creative teacher that strives for positivity, creativity, and self expression within her work environment. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Taylor!

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Brenda is a valued classroom aide at Red Hill High School, where she has proudly served for 5 years. In her daily routine, she starts off with bus duty in the morning before assisting a specific student with their coursework throughout the day. During her lunch hour, Brenda enjoys planning out her day and week ahead. After lunch, she helps out in Mrs. Otten's class and at the end of the day, she walks the student down to their bus before completing bus duty.

It's Teacher Appreciation Week!
Mrs Anne Gartner has worked at Red Hill High School as a nurse for 4 years. There is no ‘set in stone’ daily routine for Anne, every day is different. Some days she is a nurse, and other days she is helping the school office as a secretary.
Before working at Red Hill she worked for Pace Community Action Agency for 20 years. She has also worked at Crawford Memorial Hospital in the Critical Care Unit. Lastly, she has worked in Home Health.
The best piece of advice Anne has received in her career overall is to “go with the flow, don’t take yourself too seriously.” Her favorite part of her day is the fact that it is something different every day, as well as the students and staff at Red Hill.
Anne’s quote or words to live by are, “Strive for excellence, not perfection.” The most challenging part of her job is the limitations the state has on what she can and cannot do to help students. Something she could not live without is her computer. Outside of school her hobbies are reading and gardening. Lastly, her greatest accomplishment from her career currently is completing a school nurse emergency care care, which took a whole year.
Anne, your dedication and compassion in providing medical care and support are truly appreciated. Whether it's tending to minor injuries or addressing health concerns, your expertise and nurturing nature create a comforting environment for our students. We are grateful for her presence and the valuable role she plays in ensuring the well-being of our school community. Thank you, Anne, for your exceptional care and commitment!

It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Mrs. Brittany Meeks is the 3rd in Command Cook at Red Hill High School. She has worked for Red Hill for 11 years and subbed for 2 years prior to that. Brittany’s favorite part of her day is doing her prepwork when she gets to cut up fruits and vegetables for the salad bar. She explained the hardest part of her job is time management because they only have a short amount of time to get everything done for the day and prepare for the next day. Outside of work, Brittany is a proud momma to two boys, Aiden and Benny. She is very passionate about saving sea animals. Brittany says if money was no object, she would move south and start a non-profit organization to help get trash out of the ocean. Brittany loves sushi and her favorite snack is Cheetos. Her favorite drink is Sunkist zero sugar. Some of her hobbies include taking day trips and having game nights with her friends. Her favorite game is Chameleon. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with her teaching degree in Elementary Education. She has served as a substitute teacher for a few years and then transitioned to a para for 10 years.
